Ladies and Gentlemen – Das fragile feministische Wir

Since the 1970s feminist discourse has been decisively shaped and driven
internationally by women artists. For their concerns they made use in particular
of the ‘new media’, which were unencumbered by the patriarchal art system. The
opening up of feminism in the direction of today’s gender and queer theories as well
as postcolonial discussions has often become an issue for male artists as well. The
exhibition shows works of some 100 international and Austrian artists, male and
female, from the Neue Galerie Graz collection ranging from the 1970s to the present
day – the intention being to stimulate visitors to reflect and engage.
