Cross-border:
Video works by contemporary female artists

With the assistance of German curator Elisabeth Klotz, Pātaka Art + Museum is pleased to present six of the most compelling video artworks from the ground-breaking ZKM exhibition – Cross-border- to coincide with Wellington’s 2016 International Arts Festival.
These video works present a varied range of first-hand perspectives of the situations people living in the Southern Mediterranean region have to deal with today. Many of these artists still living in the Middle-East have been persecuted for being politically outspoken against oppressive regimes. Some have been violently assaulted and imprisoned for challenging the authorities, and remain in hiding in fear of their lives.
We hope that presenting a new forum for these works will encourage the individual artists represented to continue their struggle and inspire others to cross borders; be they physical, ideological, psychological or obstacles of any other form.
Artists: Yto Barrada, Zoulikha Bouabdellah, Rana ElNemr, Reem Ghazzi, Susan Hefuna, Emily Jacir.
